Halutz 2007-01-17 lamenting Halutz, one of the greatest commanders of the Israeli airforce, an exemplary figure, human, brilliant, pointy and clever may be premature. He goes because of the expectations. Because what people expected from him and even more, what they did not expect from others...People expected Halutz to act as Chief of Staff and Defence Minister and Prime Minister at the same time. When he was appointed Sharon was Prime Minister and Mofaz Minister of defence. They chose Halutz because they regarded him suitable to deal with the real problem. He was the best qualified person to handle the existential Iranian threat. To deal with the Intifada or Hizbbulla, Sharon and Mofaz believed they know better than any Chief of staff. Unfortunately, for Halutz, Sharon and Mofaz were replaced by Peretz and Olmert. So it happened that he had to pay for their indecisiveness, for their lack of talent, for their disability and for their lack of leadership. In addition he had to pay for the ill training and logistical flaws of his predecessors. And he especialy had to pay the price for Ehud Barak's shamefull escape from Lebanon. FOR Halutz's resignation we all will pay. His resignation means that from now on the war will be firmly fixed as a war in which Israel was defeated. His resignation enables Hizbbulla to celebrate victory, and what's more importent - we lost the best man to prepare the war against Iran. The People of Israel will miss Dan Halutz. |
