Female commander or prison

Two religious soldiers were sent to prison last week for refusing to serve under female commanders. One cannot imagine a decision more disturbing, idiotic and immoral than this.

If we truly hope to recruit every Jew to the army, we must be sensitive to the needs of religious soldiers. We cannot on the one hand press religious boys to enter the army and then at the same time force them to violate the Torah. Sending soldiers to prison for not being willing to break their own religious rules is outrageous and there should be an inquiry into who is responsible.
